Usually, Tuna would not be on the top of my list for favorite foods, but these tuna melts are an amazing dish, and the tomato sets it off very nicely and this is a great summer meal! This is also a good meal to make in advance if you don’t have much time, you can easily make the tuna mixture a few hours beforehand and put it in the fridge until you are ready! This pairs really nicely with a salad. If you don’t want sourdough bread, really any other bread will work, but my favorite with this is sourdough! Enjoy! Happy cooking!
4 cans tuna in water
1 cup mayonnaise
1/2 tablespoon salt
1/2 tablespoon pepper
1/2 tablespoon celery seed
1/2 tablespoon red wine vinegar
1 tomato ( I really like to use heirloom)
1 loaf sourdough bread
1 pound package sliced provolone cheese or mozzarella
Drain the water from the tuna cans and put in a medium bowl, add the mayo, salt, pepper, celery seed, And red wine vinegar. Use a fork to combine. Put in the fridge until ready to use. To make the sandwich’s, lightly toast the bottom piece of bread in a toaster or the oven, this makes 6-7 sandwich’s so about 6-7 pieces of bread. Then divide the tuna evenly to the toasted bread, which should be spread evenly on a baking sheet. Top with sliced tomatoes and cheese. Put under broiler for 1-2 minutes.
Remove from oven and top with a second piece of toasted bread. Enjoy!
